This week, we're talking about We're Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen. Someone recently gave us the board book version of this book. It's about a family's adventure going on a bear hunt. They encounter lot of different places on their adventure: the woods, a snowstorm, and a river, among others.
This book recently celebrated its 25th anniversary and I have to say the illustrations are a little dated for my taste. Generally, the babies prefer bright colored pictures (like Todd Parr's or Eric Carle's) and these are pretty but muted and alternate between black and white and watercolor. However, the repetitive text during the bear hunt is great for reading aloud. There are a lot of action and sound words so I think it will be a great story to act out when the babies are older!
Here's a YouTube video of the author performing the book.
The babies are too little watch it right now but I imagine it will be fun for them to see in a few years!
