Hotel Review: Homewood Suites Chicago - Downtown

When we were in Chicago, we stayed downtown at the Homewood Suites Chicago - Downtown. It was wonderful! It worked perfectly for our family and I would highly recommend it if you are visiting Chicago any time soon! I did a terrible job taking pictures but I'll remember to do better next time we stay somewhere!

We were expecting a typical Homewood Suites stay but this hotel exceeded our expectations. We felt like we were treated as if we were staying at a much fancier hotel. Every staff member we encountered was friendly, welcoming, and helpful.

After flying and getting into town, we weren't expecting to be able to check in but were hoping to store our luggage. However, we were able to check in at 12:30 which was fantastic. Michael at the front desk was amazing and took care of anything we needed. Our room was changed from my original online-check-in selection to give us more space for our twins. The pack and plays I requested were set up in the room as was the stroller we rented (from Baby’s Away - also recommended!)

Our room was beautiful. The hotel was recently renovated and is very modern. I’m pretty picky about cleanliness since the babies are on the ground a lot but everything was very clean. Their clothes didn’t show any dirt from crawling which has happened other places (my house included).

The kitchenette had a fridge, stovetop, microwave, and dishwasher. There were dishes and a few pots and pans. We had one issue - our dishwasher wasn't working but we mentioned it to the front desk on our way out for the day and it was fixed by the time we came back. Again, I did not do a great job taking pics. This is the kitchen area. Behind me was the living room (table, couch, fabric covered ottoman, big, mounted TV, and a chair) and to the left was a giant closet and a sidetable with drawers. The trash is on top of the fridge because opening cabinets is this kid's favorite thing to do and it was under the sink originally.

This worked fine for us but I debated bringing pack and play sheets and didn't, which I regretted. The cribs had regular sheets folded to the size of a pack and play. Not terribly comfortable and I wasn't worried since my kids are a little older but if they were smaller, I would have worried about not having a tight fitting sheet.

hschicago4.jpgThe bathroom was huge and also very clean. My only gripe, and it's the same with every suite we've stayed in, was that the bathroom was in the bedroom, which meant we had to risk waking up the babies if we needed to use it after they went to bed.

hschicago2.jpgBreakfast was good/as expected for a hotel breakfast - fruit, oatmeal, omelets or scrambled eggs, hashbrowns or homefries, bacon or sausage, baked goods, cereal, and make your own waffles. The first day we were there, they had diced fresh mango which was perfectly sized for the babies and one of their favorite things. Other days it looked like frozen or jarred fruit and baskets of apples, oranges, and bananas. The chef was very friendly and came out to talk to the babies, as was the staff manning the breakfast area. They were all very helpful, kind to our kids, and quick to clean up and restock food.

The location of this hotel was perfect for us. We were a block from the L (redline Grand stop) and took the train to and from Midway airport. It was easy and cheap. We walked everywhere once we were there and were about a mile from Millenium Park which was about as far south as we went and a mile and a half from the Lincoln Park Zoo, which was about as far north. Everything we did was within walking distance, although we did put in a lot of miles each day. There are TONS restaurants and shopping right nearby and I can't think of anything you wouldn't be able to get within just a few blocks. Whole Foods (8 minutes) and Starbucks (across the street) were pretty much all I needed!

Oh, and the hotel also has a pool on the top floor but we didn't get a chance to try it out. We did go look at it and the views were great and the water felt warm!

Overall, we had such a great experience and would stay at the Homewood Suites- Downtown Chicago again in a heartbeat!
